SEPULTURA ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM, NEW MANAGEMENT; SEARCH FOR LEAD SINGER/GUITARIST UNDERWAY
The world-renowned Brazilian heavy rock band Sepultura has announced some early details about their next album, their new management and their plan to secure a fresh lead vocalist/guitarist. After intense writing sessions in San Diego (the band's current base of operations in the US) that have produced a sizable amount of material, Sepultura are heading to Brazil for several months to finish writing the new album and capture the essence of their homeland that they've used so innovatively on albums like Roots and Chaos A.D.
"It's hard to say right now what direction the music is taking, but it's definitely Sepultura, which is our main concern," says drummer Igor Cavalera. "You can hear this album and know what band it is. The music still has the whole Sepultura vibe--it's a mix of everything that we've done before, only re-invented in a new way." New song titles include "Choke," "Boycott," "Common Bond," "Tribus," "Rumors," and "Reza," which is a Portuguese word for "pray." "It's gonna be cool to write the rest of the record in Brazil, then come back and get ready to record," remarks Igor. "We'll have a lot of different vibes on the album." Along the way, the band plans to find a brand new lead singer and guitarist who will be the final ingredient in the new Sepultura. After debating the merits of staying a trio with Andreas Kisser on vocals and lead guitar, the band has decided that they enjoy the four-piece format best. A worldwide call is out now to find the person--and Sepultura firmly believe that it doesn't have to be someone who's previously established himself in another metal band. "The main thing is that it's gotta be someone who will fit with us, not necessarily musically, but a person who somehow has the same ideas about life and sees things the way we see things. In other words, not the typical metal guy who just thinks about beer," says Igor with a chuckle. "We want a guy who can talk about beer and soccer!" Sepultura have also announced that they are now exclusively managed by Todd Singerman and Alex Guerrero at Singerman Entertainment. The new Sepultura album is due for release in late 1998.
